On Monday, 14 October 2019, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art (MMOMA) has welcomed a debut large-scale project by Yoko Ono which features her legendary textual ''instructions'', reenactments of the artist's classical performances and her video art.

Yoko Ono had a life before John Lennon. She is a remarkable figure in conceptualism of 1960s, and a member of the Fluxus movement. She has largely contributed to the development of action art, happenings, and video art. The key feature of her art concerns a special approach towards a spectator who is often turned into a co-author of her art.

Instructions

''Instructions'' are works of ephemeral quality sometimes text-based instructions, sometimes in the form of objects that invite an admirer to perform simple actions:

  • to point a place on the map where peace should be brought ('Imagine Peace Map', 2003)

  • to complete the artist's unfinished work ('Add Colour Painting', 1966)

  • to play chess on an all-white board ('Play It by Trust', 1966)

''The Sky Is Always Clear'' features the reenactments of Yoko Ono's classical performances. The project includes a major interactive initiative by Yoko Ono where she invites women all over the world to share and write in their native languages about any case of moral, physical or any other type of violence, and to attach a photo of their eyes. Texts and photos thus collected form part of the MMOMA display.

On 15 October 2019 the MMOMA hosted a public talk with the exhibition curator. director of the Astrup Fearnley Museum of Contemporary Art (Oslo), Gunnar B. Kvaran.

Alida Solutions team provided interpretation services which included consecutive interpretation for press tours and official opening of the exhibition, as well as simultaneous interpretation during the public talk.
